This morning we were laughing about the news story featuring George Bush running over a British policeman on his bicycle.

I'd like to go back to that place, please.

What the hell goes through somebody's head when they plan these things? It would be easy - hell, it would be more reassuring - to label the perpetrators as insane nutjobs, as radical dipshits acting out of idiocy.

But the people who organise attacks like this - they're not stupid. They're incredibly intelligent.

So what the hell makes them think that this helps? That killing innocent men, women and children could possibly help their cause?

The tv is on in our office. It's never on. The last time it was on was Christmas, and we had no work, and were wasting time watching E4's repeats of Friends.

Between the endless repeated shots of a bus blown apart, and a white sheeted figure carried down a street on a gurney, was an interview with one of the passengers on the tube, one fortunate enough to survive uninjured.

He could barely keep it together.

I wanted the news crew to get out of his face, to have the sensitivity to give the man some peace. But he's not going to get any, is he?

And he's one of the lucky ones.
