Patriotism gets on my wick

A rather arrogant tosser who believes a quick Google search can prove his intelligence is celebrating St George's Day on EFF.

Now, firstly, this annoys me because the poster is not what I'd call a 'proper' member. They don't participate in the forum, they only engage in inane conversations with a friend, or else post in order to prove their intelligence. And in doing so, immediately show their lack of any.

Secondly... I don't love my country. There are days when I truly despise my country. Last Saturday was one of them.

From the Washington Post:

LONDON, April 16 (UPI) -- A Colombian man who feared for his life was denied asylum by Britain and was shot by right-wing paramilitaries a week after he was sent back home.

Jhon Reyes-Prado had pleaded with British immigration officials to let him and his family stay, telling them he had already lost four members of his family to assassinations, the British newspaper the Independent reported Friday.

His appeals apparently fell on deaf ears, and he was sent back to Colombia last week. Immigration officials said they believed he would be safe because Reyes-Prado and his family would be living hours away from the place where his family members were killed in 2000.

He was reportedly shot several times Thursday by two hooded men on motorcycles.

Jhon was a campaigner for human rights - something that is frequently abused in Columbia. He is exactly the sort of person that the asylum system should be helping. But our wonderful home secretary, Mr Blunkett, decided to ignore the advice of fellow MPs and human rights campaigners, because he would rather befriend the Daily Mail.

Which is another reason why I hate this country. Our biggest selling paper is also a manufacturer of lies, of blatant racism and homophobia, and even sexism.

Oh yes, there are days I hate this country. And that particular poster at EFF just made this one of those days.
