Day two, in Papaya.net
10:03 a.m. on 2003-07-30

I never knew clean clothes and shampoo could be such a luxury.

Finally got my luggage back in the early hours of this morning. Good thing too, the tour starts tonight, I think.

Quito is hot, crowded, noisy and dirty. Like the back streets of Manchester if they were transplanted to, well, somewhere hot. People are very polite, and easy with a warm smile. Its scarily cheap over here, although I did indulge yesterday and splash out on trout and veg for lunch at a popular backpacker place, the Magic Bean.

Ive come to the realisation that the hotel Im stopping in is quite posh, for Quito standards, and filled with mostly Spanish guests. While waiting for my luggage in reception last night, a Spanish couple came through the door, grabbed their keys, and whisked themselves up to their room. Except the woman wore a beautiful brides dress and her partner was obviously the groom. That was pretty random.

As is cable tv here. Lots and lots and LOTS of bloody weight loss ads. There a couple of channels which show American or English shows, including Fox, but annoyingly while I could watch the Simpsons, it was dubbed in Spanish. Eep.

Still feeling homesick. But ho hum, what are you going to do? It will be better once the trip starts properly. Until then I always have the internet!

Random event: Watching Footloose dubbed in Spanish.
